Sneakers have become a booming industry. Many brands such as Nike and Adidas only drop a limited stock of sneakers, driving the demand of sneakers. With sneakers selling out in seconds on release day, it leads many consumers to shop with secondhand markets.
This whole process has been coined as hype culture. Mack Soles and Tre Solez are two online resale businesses that specialize in getting you your favorite hype sneakers.
I was able to sit down and speak with the owners, Daylen Mack and Tre Bizzell to learn more about how they define hype culture, how they got their start in the business, and the process of obtaining these hype sneakers.
What is hype culture?
"How I personally define it is, is that it's based on the trends. It's always a different thing." Mack says. "It's more of like a hey, what's hot? Aye, let's bandwagon that trend type thing." He added.
"Let's just say New Balance. You would see a New Balance [shoe], a couple years ago and think nobody would ever wear that. Now it's selling for 300 or 400 dollars, it really depends on what type of trends are going on now, what people are liking and what the celebrities are wearing." Bizzell said.

Mack got his start in his 11th grade year of high school, after his good friend Jacob suggested they get involved in the business. Mack says it wasn't working at first, but he gave it one more shot during the COVID-19 pandemic and things really took off for him and his business.
Bizzell has been interested in sneakers since he was very young. He says he wanted to own the world's largest shoe collection, but later realized he would need money to do so. Bizzell then got the idea to become a shoe reseller and started his business in January of 2021.
With these sneakers being in such high demand, I asked Mack and Bizzell what their process is like in getting these hype releases to their customers. They both said that they get ready weeks in advance for releases. The two most common ways they get the sneakers are by entering various shoe raffles and contacting other resellers.
"You know, you have to make connections. You have to network with people in order to get those type of things." Mack said. "I got a game plan; I write it out and then I of course execute the day of." Mack added
What are the easiest and hardest shoes to get for customers?
"The hardest sneakers to get are Yeezys, because we don't have the stores in town that sell those shoes, so we have to find different ways, like messaging people online." Bizzell said

When it comes for what's next for business partners Mack and Bizzell, they are working on merch and opening a store front next summer in Little Rock.
